The New York Yankees paid tribute to future Hall of Fame “Captain”, Derek Jeter during a formal ceremony held at Yankee Stadium on September 7, 2014, the final month of Derek’s 20-year career. The Captain was greeted by former teammates, friends, family members and a plethora of baseball legends. Teammates Mariano Rivera, Jorge Posada, Paul O’Neill, Bernie Williams, Tino Martinez and former manager Joe Torre were among those to honor Derek. Michael Jordan, Derek’s long-time friend and idol, and Cal Ripken Jr. were also on hand to pay tribute. The ceremony concluded with a touching speech in which Derek thanked all those who made his career possible, with special gratitude to the Yankees’ fans.
